Health-care reform has been presented as an emergency. We are in crisis, is the cry of the Obama administration. We are not in crisis. Health care needs reform (the costs of treatment are exorbitant, whether you or your insurance company picks up the tab). But here is the deal: the rush to pass this legislation, which will change our country in ways many citizens deplore, is built on one simple factor: Democrats know they must strike while they hold a majority. A smaller majority, a minority and the Congress would be focusing on something that is a crisis: jobs for Americans.
