The Honorable Jim Jordan
Chairman
House Republican Study Committee
1524 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515
Dear Mr. Chairman,
Independent Women's Voice adds its name in support of the US House Republican Study Committee amendment to the FY 2011 Continuing Resolution that will reduce non-security discretionary spending back to FY 2008 levels.
The budget submitted by President Obama on Monday represents a total of $8.9 trillion over the period of time covered by the budget. After years of skyrocketing deficit spending in Congress, adding trillions upon trillion of dollars to the national debt, President Obama has irresponsibly proposed to further burden future generations with more and more debt.
If the deficit spending proposed in President Obama's budget is allowed to become a reality, the fourteen highest single year budget deficits in US history will occur from 2008-2021. President Obama's budget would increase our national debt from $14.2 trillion to an incomprehensible $26.4 trillion in 2021. That's an increase of 86%! This means the amount of new debt President Obama is proposing is greater than the total amount of debt accumulated between 1789 and 2009.
This madness must stop. And it must stop now.
The RSC amendment to the CR represents a great step forward towards reigning in federal spending and our ballooning national debt. The amendment will return non-security discretionary spending back to FY 2008 levels, representing a full $100 billion cut in non-security spending savings.
In November, the American people sent a clear message to Washington, D.C. They demanded we begin to get our spending under control. The RSC amendment is a bold step in the right direction of fiscal responsibility and reduction of our national debt.
Sincerely
Heather R. Higgins
