(Washington D.C.) – Following Alabama's 6th Congressional District GOP Primary, where Gary Palmer secured a runoff against Paul DeMarco, Independent Women’s Voice President and CEO Heather R. Higgins released the following statement:

“Congratulations to Repeal Pledge signer Gary Palmer on advancing to runoff in Alabama's 6th congressional district race. After tonight's returns, on July 15th, Palmer will face Paul DeMarco in a runoff election for the GOP nomination. We offer our congratulations to him on securing a spot in the runoff contest.

"This is great news for voters in Alabama who have had enough of ObamaCare's damage to our health care system and want reforms that put power back in the hands of patients and doctors. Gary Palmer has signed the Repeal Pledge to show the depth of his opposition to – and seriousness about his determination to repeal – ObamaCare. IWV has reached out to Paul DeMarco's campaign to sign the Pledge, but we have yet to receive his signature. If DeMarco is serious about ObamaCare repeal, he should sign the ObamaCare Repeal Pledge today.

"Candidates have used the Repeal Pledge since 2010 to prove their commitment on this crucial issue. Palmer understands that ObamaCare is a government infringement on our constitutional liberties and he knows that it will lead to bigger government and less freedom."

The Repeal Pledge advocates not just repeal, but defunding, deauthorizing, and dismantling the misleadingly-titled Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, enacted in early 2010. The Repeal Pledge was designed as a litmus test to help the American public understand which candidates and office holders are serious about repeal, versus those who claim to be but won't actually take action.

Signers of the Repeal Pledge believe that this law cannot be "fixed" and that stopping its implementation and ultimately repealing it are necessary first steps to ensure that citizens and their doctors, not government bureaucrats, have choice and control over their health care, and that medical care in our country becomes more affordable and available.
