Washington, D.C.) — Kansas incumbent U.S. Senator Pat Roberts has signed the Independent Women’s Voice’s ObamaCare Repeal Pledge. Independent Women's Voice CEO and President Heather Higgins released the following statement:
"We congratulate Senator Roberts for signing The Repeal Pledge and demonstrating to the voters of Kansas that he is committed to repealing and defunding ObamaCare. He follows the lead of his primary challenger, Dr. Milton Wolfe, who has already signed The Repeal Pledge.
“All Republican incumbents need to sign The Repeal Pledge – especially if they’re facing challengers in competitive primaries. The Repeal Pledge is a clear and unequivocal statement against ObamaCare, and as we’veseen in other Republican primaries around the country, voters use the Repeal Pledge not only as a measure of the seriousness of any politician’s commitment to repealing and replacing ObamaCare, but as an indicator of their understanding of the relationship between government and the individual, and even as a test of how much someone has been captured by the go-along, get-along culture of Washington in which voters are only a secondary concern. As we see time and time again, they’re willing to oust even the most entrenched Republicans who don’t stand with them.”
The Repeal Pledge advocates not just repeal, but defunding, deauthorizing, and dismantling the misleadingly-titled Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, enacted in early 2010. The Repeal Pledge was designed as a litmus test to help the American public understand which candidates and office holders are serious about repeal, versus those who claim to be but won't actually take action.
Signers of the Repeal Pledge believe that this law cannot be "fixed" and that stopping its implementation and ultimately repealing it are necessary first steps to ensure that citizens and their doctors, not government bureaucrats, have choice and control over their health care, and that medical care in our country becomes more affordable and available.
