Dear friend of IWV,

Why is IWV so focused on fighting ObamaCare? Because it's one of the most important issues for the future of America. But it's not the only critical issue affecting where our nation is heading.

Taxes, regulation, energy policy, education. All these issues have a big impact on our economy and especially on women, as the leading consumers and overseers of the family budget. But there's another issue you probably haven't heard much about. And it's important that you're aware of just how it could affect you.

Today, there is a hearing in Congress on an update of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). That's the federal law governing the safety of chemicals used in products sold in the United States. But the law, enacted in 1976, is in need of updating. Today's hearing is to consider what direction those changes should take.

Senators David Vitter (R-LA) and Tom Udall (D-NM) have bipartisan legislation that would streamline the regulatory process and create a system whereby chemicals are regulated based on the latest science. That's a step in the right direction.

Senator Barbara Boxer has introduced competing legislation that is too extreme, will cost jobs, and will increase the price of common, everyday products.

You can learn more about this important issue by visiting our sister organization, the Independent Women's Forum, here.

If you share our concern about regulation being done right, please contact your congressman and let him or her know that you want regulations to be based on sound science and to encourage safety and further innovation — without needlessly destroying jobs and raising prices even higher.
