WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, on the fifth anniversary of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) launched a new initiative, A Bridge to Better Health Care, that seeks to replace the law with a better healthcare system that will offer more affordable care and more consumer options. Working with policy experts, Members of Congress, and individuals at the grassroots level, IWV’s new initiative is building a broad coalition supporting an actionable repeal and a replacement plan that can be implemented with the inauguration of a new president in 2017.
A Bridge to Better Health Care will, in the event the U.S. Supreme Court rules against the IRS making up its own laws and in favor of the plaintiffs in King v. Burwell returning us to the law as it was written, promote solutions that immediately protect and provide transition assistance to the millions of Americans who may be unable to afford the full cost of their insurance if insurance companies lose their subsidies.
“Unfortunately, millions of Americans have lost their health insurance, been deprived of their doctors, and suffered staggering insurance cost increases since the Affordable Care Act became law five years ago,” said Heather Higgins, President and CEO of Independent Women’s Voice.
“Americans deserve better. We deserve a healthcare system that's affordable, accessible, simple, sensible, with more choices, and built for all Americans and their families. The president knows that structural problems with ObamaCare have created a complex mess that isn’t working and never will. This is why many of the most painful pieces of the law have been delayed by the Obama Administration or changed through a series of temporary band-aids and tweaks. We don’t have to settle for complicated and convoluted; it's time to build a bridge to better health care.”
A Bridge To Better Health Care will engage social and traditional media to educate reporters, policymakers and the public about not only the existing harms inflicted by ObamaCare but also the staggering harms yet to come and the value of transitioning to a different, better system. It will include a rapid response war room that seeks to correct misinformation, circulate relevant research, and hold supporters of the ACA accountable for its continuous failures.
