INDEPENDENT WOMEN'S VOICE CELEBRATES PASSAGE OF THE AHCA THAT ROLLS BACK OBAMACARE & PAVES WAY TOWARD HEALTHCARE FREEDOM

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Independent Women’s Voice (IWV), creator of the ObamaCare Repeal Pledge and the leading organization that fights for women and families by expanding support for policy that advances prosperity, freedom, and greater choices, issued the following statement celebrating the House passage of the American Health Care Act (AHCA) to repeal and replace ObamaCare. Hadley Heath Manning, IWV senior policy analyst, said:

"Today the House took an important step to repeal most of ObamaCare and pass important reforms that can offer patients greater choice and lower premiums, while also guaranteeing protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

"ObamaCare, despite good intentions, did not achieve its goals of protecting patients or offering greater affordability. In fact, the opposite has taken place: many people have lost coverage or are at risk of losing coverage as more insurers exit the program. And rates have soared.  We are glad to see the law's counterproductive mandates, taxes, and spending repealed.

"We look forward to watching the American Health Care Act move through the U.S. Senate and to President Trump's desk.

"Even then, there is more work to do. This legislation is the product of compromise and will not create a perfectly free market in health care or insurance. But it is a step in the right direction. We look forward to continuing the fight for greater healthcare freedom through administrative action and further legislation.

"We also encourage states to strongly consider taking advantage of the waivers that will be available to them that will allow them to reduce costs and increase competition in insurance markets through deregulation. Individuals and families, not governments, know what type of coverage fits their needs and budget, and they should be in control of that choice."
