Tax Day was a little more exciting than usual for Dollywood workers who received a $500 bonus when they showed up to work. The family theme park in Tennessee surprised employees with a one-time bonus, which they said was prompted by savings from corporate tax cuts.
Dollywood is owned by and named for legendary country singer Dolly Parton. The theme parked claimed the title for serving the best theme park food this recently. Employees may also consider it a good place to work after this week's surprise bonuses.
Employees who worked at least 1,000 hours in the previous year qualified for the bonus.
Company president explained why they did it:
"Dollywood strives to be a great place to work for great people. We're grateful for the memories our Hosts create for our Guests by working hard every day, and this bonus is just one way we plan to share our appreciation throughout the year."
These employees join over 4 million workers nationwide who have received bonuses, salary increases, and new benefits thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed last year by Congress. The grocery chain Kroger recently announced that it plans to invest about $130 million more per year on expanded employee benefits as well. Here's a growing list of companies that have surprised their workers thanks to tax reform.
