Independent Women's Voice CEO Heather R. Higgins Appointed to Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission

Washington, DC — Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) CEO Heather R. Higgins last week was appointed to the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, along with Wisconsin’s Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

“It’s wonderful to learn of Heather Higgins’ appointment to the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission commemorating the 100th anniversary of the passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment,” said Tammy Bruce, president of IWV. “America’s suffrage leaders were women who knew things had to change and that all Americans deserved the right to be part of the American dream. These hundred years later, Heather’s accomplishments and success in fighting to improve women’s lives is a perfect example of what those leaders had hoped for and knew was possible.”

“This appointment allows Heather to extend her powerful voice on behalf of the principle that women’s economic, political, and personal freedom are key to our ability to pursue our own dreams and help others achieve theirs.”

Heather R. Higgins, CEO of Independent Women’s Voice and Chairman of its sister organization Independent Women’s Forum, is one of 14 people who will serve on the bipartisan national Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission. The Centennial Commission was created by act of Congress to encourage, plan, develop, and execute Federal, state, local, and private programs, projects, and activities that commemorate the centennial of the passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote. “Women contribute so much to the proud history in our country.  It's important that their story is told and celebrated by those in our time, inspiring those contributions to continue into the future” said Higgins. “I'm honored to serve on the Women's Suffrage Centennial Commission, and look forward to working with my fellow commissioners on this important effort that transcends politics or any partisan divide. Women of both parties did so much to advance the cause of liberty, equality, and human dignity. And women are essential to creating not only the opportunities that we enjoy today but the even better tomorrow we all want as well.”
