The majority of Americans find themselves better off now than before. According to a new survey by Rasmussen Reports, 2018 topped recent years for most people.
This time last year, the same polling organization found that 56 percent reported a positive outlook for 2018 and what it had in store. That’s in large part thanks to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that had just been signed into law, ushering in the broadest overhaul to the tax code in over three decades. For many, this helped to instill public confidence in the jobs market, the direction of wages, and the overall economy.
Americans were right to feel optimistic. In 2018, it became clear that people are finally experiencing real relief.
Here are just a few of the benefits brought about by tax reform as well as the administration’s regulatory reform efforts. In 2018:
- The unemployment rate fell to a historic low.
- The average tax cut for a typical family of four was approximately $2,059.
- Over 4 million Americans received raises or bonuses because of tax reform.
- Wages grew at their fastest pace in a decade.
- Small business optimism hit record highs.
Here’s the best part: This trend is expected to continue in 2019. The average paycheck is expected to increase by at least 3.1 percent which means more take-home pay for workers and their families. Cheers to the year ahead!
