We have a very real humanitarian crisis at the border, including rampant cases of human trafficking and sexual abuse, and a drug epidemic in our country that is destroying far too many families, communities, and lives.

So why are the mainstream media and the left acting like there’s nothing to see here?

The mainstream media is shying away from reporting on very real, hard facts. It’s not just reckless — but it’s dangerous and damaging to the American people.

Let’s remove the political veil for a minute and take a look at some stats:

  • It has been well documented by Border Patrol and immigration officers that drug cartels, gangs, and human traffickers are taking advantage of loopholes in our immigration system to benefit their operations.
  • Many migrants wind up paying coyotes to help them — only to fall victim to sexual assault, abuse, kidnapping, extortion, and even ransom.
  • Amnesty International reported that “80% of women experience rape and sexual assault during the migration process.”
  • As many as 20,000 migrants each year are kidnapped by criminals in Mexico. And the majority of migrants from Central America experienced extortion in Mexico.
  • Last month, there was the largest seizure of fentanyl at the southern border ever recorded by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. There were approximately 650 pounds of methamphetamine and fentanyl seized. To put the size of the haul in perspective, in a 2017 Columbus, Ohio drug bust, prosecutors said 4.5 pounds of fentanyl was enough to potentially kill the entire city’s population of about 800,000 people.
  • Over a quarter-million illegal immigrants were incarcerated in the United States from 2017-2018 for crimes such as drug violation, assault, homicide, robbery, sex offense, kidnapping, or immigration offense, according to a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement report.
  • According to the White House, over the past two years, immigrants have been charged or convicted of nearly 100,000 assaults, 30,000 sex crimes, and 4,000 killings.
  • The average illegal immigrant in federal, state, or local prison has been arrested an average of 8.3 times.
