Independent Women's Voice Applauds Senator Joni Ernst for Introducing the “Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019”
The “Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019” Is a Modern Approach to Fighting Violence Against Women
Washington, DC — Independent Women's Voice applauds the introduction of the “Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019”, S. 2920, by Senator Joni Ernst. The “Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2019” reauthorizes the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) programs for ten years, provides additional funding, compared to the partisan Senate Democrat bill, and critically addresses new threats faced by young women and girls while ensuring that valuable resources are made available to those who need them.
IWV Chairwoman Heather Higgins issued the following statement: "It is way past time that we modernize the Violence Against Women Act to ensure that it recognizes growing threats to women and girls in this country. For too long, breathtakingly awful forms of violence against women–like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, sex trafficking, and honor killings–have been ignored due to political correctness. Not anymore. Senator Ernst’s legislation sends a clear message that we do not tolerate such heinous abuse against women and girls.”
IWV Senior Advisor Andi Bottner added, “Senator Ernst is making sure this modern Violence Against Women Act delivers funding in a transparent and accountable way. The assistance needs to get to those who need it in the most open and efficient way possible.”
Independent Women’s Voice has been the leader championing modernizing the Violence Against Women Act to address today’s threats. IWV’s nationwide advocacy campaign has driven emails and calls to Senate offices.
