Dear Senators,

Independent Women’s Voice, which fights for policies that enhance people’s freedom, opportunities, and well-being, fully supports the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court of the United States.

The U.S. Constitution states that the president “shall nominate” justices of the Supreme Court “with the Advice and Consent of the Senate.” The President fulfilled his duty and nominated a stellar candidate who is widely recognized by her peers as a brilliant scholar, a favorite teacher, a fair-minded jurist, and a devoted mother and friend.

Yet, if recent Supreme Court nominations are our guide, we know that activists will stop at nothing to thwart Judge Barrett’s confirmation to the Court, including disrupting the process and smearing her good name. In fact, certain individuals have already launched personal, baseless and speculative attacks on Barrett, none of which relate to her qualifications for the post.

Sadly, such attacks against successful women have become all too common. Too often, people in the public sphere personally attack women in an attempt to silence them. That’s not right, and it’s not fair.

There is no question that Judge Barrett is incredibly qualified to serve as a justice of the United States Supreme Court. Judge Barrett will discharge her duties faithfully and impartially. She has already spoken on the matter during the hearings regarding her nomination to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit: “It’s never appropriate for a judge to impose that judge’s personal convictions, whether they derive from faith or anywhere else in the law.”

IWV is proud to support the nomination of such a qualified woman to the highest court in the land. We urge Senators to provide Judge Barrett with a fair and respectful hearing and to confirm her to the Supreme Court of the United States.

Respectfully,

Hadley Heath Manning
