Dear Members of Congress,
Independent Women’s Voice, the leading national women’s organization dedicated to expanding support for common sense public policies among women, independents, millennials, and Gen Z, is proud to support Representative Dan Bishop’s Stop CRT Act.
The Stop CRT Act seeks to prevent federal funds from being used to teach or advance the ideas of Critical Race Theory (CRT) and any other doctrines that espouse the view that any race is inherently superior or inferior to any other race, that the United States is a fundamentally racist country, or that the Declaration of Independence or the United States Constitution are fundamentally racist documents.
While we must stand against the terrible evil of racism, the use of federal funds to teach that some individuals are inherently racist due to the color of their skin undermines that goal.
America was founded on the principle that all human beings are created equal, and we have sacrificed enormous blood, sweat, and treasure striving to live up to that promise. Our nation has made incredible progress. But Critical Race Theory undermines our efforts by teaching that American institutions are inherently and irredeemably racist and by urging us to view one another, not as individuals or as Americans, but as members of either an oppressor or victim class based solely on skin color.
We thank Representative Bishop for his leadership on this issue and urge you to join him in his efforts to prevent the use of federal dollars for the advancement of ideas associated with Critical Race Theory.
Respectfully,
Hadley Heath Manning
