Washington, D.C. — Today, Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced his opposition to the Biden administration’s nomination of Sarah Bloom Raskin as vice chair for supervision on the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. With Sen. Manchin’s opposition, Raskin is likely to see her nomination defeated.

Patrice Onwuka, senior policy analyst at Independent Women’s Voice (IWV), released the following statement:

“Independent Women’s Voice applauds Senator Manchin for standing up against Sarah Bloom Raskin’s nomination to become the Federal Reserve’s top banking regulator.

“Earlier this year, IWV opposed Ms. Raskin’s nomination and joined 10 leading economic policymakers to express concern that Ms. Raskin has advocated for discriminating against the fossil fuel industry in pursuit of a climate-change crusade. This approach would destroy jobs and drive energy prices higher, at a time when Americans of all incomes are already faced with growing inflation concerns and higher prices at the pump.

“Senator Manchin has shown he understands the concerns of everyday Americans who want Washington to work to improve their lives, not pursue policy goals to the detriment of Americans’ quality of living.

“Ms. Raskin is the latest of the Biden administration’s string of nomination defeats, including Marxist Saule Omarova to Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and extremist Neera Tanden as director for the Office of Management and Budget.

“The Biden administration fails to understand that the American people desire pragmatic public servants, not radicals running our country into the ground.”
