Dear Senators and Members of Congress,
Independent Women’s Voice, the leading national women’s organization dedicated to expanding support for common sense public policies among women, independents, millennials, and Gen Z, is proud to support the American Energy Independence from Russia Act.
The American Energy Independence from Russia Act seeks to reassert American energy independence and end our reliance on Russian energy sources. The Russian invasion of Ukraine must be a wake up call for our leaders to end our dependence on unfriendly foreign nations such as Russia for our vital energy needs. To further this end, the act aims to bolster the American energy industry.
“Putin and Russia’s economy are dependent upon dominating energy production and exporting to other nations.” Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, sponsor of the bill, said. “To counter Putin, our bill flips the switch to promote American energy jobs, production, and exports. America must shut down Putin’s war chest and stop bloodshed in Ukraine, and this legislation is a vital step in achieving those goals.”
It is not good for the environment, American national security, or consumers to depend on hostile nations that employ weak environmental standards to fulfill our energy needs. The U.S. can and should unleash our energy sector to secure ourselves and our allies against Russian aggression, and prevent similar situations from happening again.
