WASHINGTON, D.C. – Last night, the U.S. Senate passed a $1.5 trillion omnibus spending package filled with hidden provisions. The Violence Against Women Act, an important piece of legislation that has been the topic of recent debate, was one such provision stuck into the bill without any debate.

Andrea Bottner, senior adviser to Independent Women’s Voice, released the following statement: “During Women’s History Month, it is especially insulting to see lawmakers on Capitol Hill think so little of women as to stick the Violence Against Women Act into a spending bill so as not to invite debate and consideration. What are they hiding?”
