WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) celebrates Representatives Mary Miller (R-IL), Claudia Tenney (R-NY-24), Debbie Lesko (R-AZ-8), Ralph Norman (R-SC-5), Victoria Spartz (R-IN-5), Bob Good (R-VA-5), Randy Weber (R-TX-14) and Greg Steube (R-FL-17) for their signing of IWV’s Hope Agenda Stand With Women Commitment in support of legislation that preserves women’s equal opportunities and single-sex spaces. The commitment marks representatives’ promise to support legislation like the bicameral Congressional Review Act resolution (S.J. Res. 96 & H.J. Res. 165) to overturn the Biden administration’s unlawful Title IX regulation.
The Biden administration’s unilateral rewrite of Title IX undermines women’s rights, free speech, and due process. If this new Omnibus Rule goes into effect on August 1, the landmark sex equality law will be turned on its head through extra-statutory regulations that require schools to allow males to self-identify into women’s spaces, opportunities, and athletics. This does not enforce Title IX, it violates it.
“Anti-woman vitriol embraced by radicals who seek to erase women’s sex-based rights and misogynists who support stealing opportunities from women and giving them to men must be challenged and stopped. The coordinated attempt to replace ‘sex’ with ‘gender’ rejects reality and denies objective truth. That is precisely what we’re seeing play out from the Biden administration. In the most anti-woman, anti-reality pursuit we have seen from the administration, 52 years of federal protections under Title IX on the ‘basis of sex’ that have safeguarded women’s equal opportunities are being eliminated.” Independent Women’s Voice Ambassador Riley Gaines criticized the new Title IX regulations and championed those who stand against it saying, “Fortunately, Congress can clean up this mess. Ahead of the Congressional Review Act vote to overturn the illegal Title IX rules, I’m thrilled to see so many leaders in Congress proudly proclaim that they stand with women and girls. Signing the Stand with Women Commitment is the easiest way to let Americans know if you are pro-woman. Everyone should do it. Americans will be watching to see who does and who doesn’t.”
By signing IWV’s Stand With Women Commitment, Reps. Mary Miller, Claudia Tenney, Debbie Lesko, Ralph Norman, Victoria Spartz, Bob Good, Randy Weber and Greg Steube promise “to uphold legislation that preserves female opportunities and private spaces.”
“I am proud to be sponsoring the bill that repeals Biden’s Title IX re-write, which is Biden’s radical attempt to erase opportunities and protections for our daughters. Biological males do not belong in women’s sports or girls’ locker rooms,” said Rep. Mary Miller.
“Title IX allowed female athletes to train, compete, and triumph in sports without fear of being discriminated against. Yet the Left continues to attack the hard-fought rights of women and girls to train, compete, and excel in sports by denying the biological truth and allowing men in women’s sports. This is not only fundamentally unfair but erodes the rights that women fought tirelessly to obtain. I will continue supporting legislation such as the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act and the Women’s Bill of Rights to empower women of all ages and create opportunities for women to thrive and compete on a level playing field. I will always Stand with Women,” said Rep. Claudia Tenney.
“Biden’s Title IX re-write is radical and anti-woman. The Left is weaponizing the law that Congress passed in order to implement their progressive agenda that admits males to intimate female spaces, permits males to take women’s scholarships, and strips parental rights to make decisions about their own children in school. H.J. Res 165 will reverse Biden’s dangerous course. I’m honored to vote for it and commit to standing with women,” said Rep. Greg Steube.
“Joe Biden and the Democrats have pandered to their radical base at the expense of our daughters’ sports. Women are women, and men are men. Men should not be in women’s locker rooms, on the same team, or competing against women or girls. The sheer fact that we have to fight this administration on such an elementary issue is emblematic of their constant assault on American normalcy and morality,” said Rep. Randy Weber.
“Throughout my time in public service, I have worked to support women’s rights, further opportunities for women, and protect their privacy and security. I’m pleased to support the Independent Women’s Voice Stand With Women Commitment. As a proud Arizonan, I will always stand with women!” said Rep. Debbie Lesko.
The Stand With Women Commitment is part of IWV’s Hope Agenda to offer solutions on some of the most important issues that women, as well as Independents, Hispanics, and younger Americans, care deeply about and want addressed. New polling by Independent Women’s Voice reveals that a whopping 73% of Americans say that preventing biological men from accessing women’s private spaces, athletics and academic opportunities is important to them when making their decision of who to vote for.
Independent Women’s Voice is leading efforts against the Title IX rewrite:
- Independent Women’s Forum, IWV’s sister organization, organized the Our Bodies, Our Sports “Take Back Title IX” Summer 2024 Bus Tour. Visiting 30 states in 30 days, the tour traveled coast to coast this summer to expose the consequences of the Biden administration’s new Title IX regulations and activate supporters across the country to join the largest, most ideologically diverse, women’s movement of our time.
- IWF joined a panel discussion on Capitol Hill, led by U.S. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, on the importance of protecting Title IX and the threat posed to women’s equal opportunity and spaces – including sports – by the Biden administration’s illegal Title IX rewrite.
- IWV drove more than 20,000 public comments to the Department of Education opposing the Biden administration’s plan to gut Title IX.
- Independent Women’s Forum ambassadors joined the “Take Back Title IX” roundtable, hosted by U.S. Senators on Capitol Hill, to advocate fairness in women’s sports. Read their written testimonies here.
