LANSING, MI — Today, Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) celebrates Mike Rogers, candidate for U.S. Senate in Michigan, for his Stand With Women Commitment and support of legislation that preserves women’s rights to equal opportunity, safety, and privacy — including single-sex spaces. Former Education Secretary Betsy Devos, Riley Gaines, and Paula Scanlan were in attendance to champion Rogers’ commitment to women and girls in Michigan.
By signing IWV’s Stand With Women Commitment, Mike Rogers promises “to uphold legislation that preserves female opportunities and private spaces.”
The Biden-Harris administration’s new administrative rule, which took effect August 1, unilaterally redefines Title IX’s sex-based protections to apply to “gender identity.” The rules pressure schools to let males who identify as women take women’s scholarships and roster spots. Rogers’s commitment to preserve uniform, biological definitions for sex-based words in federal law will preserve equal opportunity for women and girls in all aspects of education, including in sports.
Mike Rogers, candidate for the United States Senate said, “Protecting women’s spaces and opportunities to compete are critical to the future of our nation. I am proud to sign the Stand with Women Commitment to ensure our daughters can access opportunities for generations to come. Biological men should not be competing with our daughters, period.”
Hon. Betsy DeVos, former U.S. Secretary of Education, said, “This isn’t complicated: Title IX was passed to protect women. The Biden-Harris scheme uses Title IX to destroy Title IX’s purpose, by putting the demands of their extreme, woke political base above the needs of women and girls. Elissa Slotkin is on the wrong side of women and the wrong side of history on this issue, and I’m grateful to Mike Rogers for his commitment to ensuring common sense prevails.”
“It shouldn’t be a moral act of courage to publicly proclaim that you ‘stand with women’ and support women’s sports, spaces and equal opportunity,” said Riley Gaines, IWV Ambassador and host of Outkick’s ‘Gaines For Girls’. “But here we are. I am grateful that Mike Rogers is willing to not only say he stands with women but sign Independent Women’s Voice’s Stand with Women Commitment. It’s been shocking to me how few candidates are actually willing to sign their name to something so simple and clear to let Americans know where they stand on female-only sports and spaces. Michigan is lucky to have such a clear commitment from one of their candidates this year.”
IWV Legislative Liaison Paula Scanlan said, “I crisscross the country testifying on bills that define ‘woman’ and help protect women’s spaces and opportunities. It’s not the path I saw myself taking fresh out of college but it’s been necessary since the Biden-Harris administration failed women and girls with their illegal re-write of Title IX. I’m proud to stand alongside Mike Rogers as he signs the Stand with Women Commitment and takes a firm stance to protect women and girls from sex-discrimiation and safeguard their rights. Now, the over 5 million Michigan women know where he stands on their sex-based rights.”
Words like ‘female’, ‘male’, ‘man’, and ‘woman’ are used thousands of times in state and federal law. Unelected judges and bureaucrats are unilaterally redefining sex-based terms and expanding the scope of sex discrimination laws already on the books. When these sex-based words don’t have uniform, biological definitions, women pay the price.
The Stand with Women Commitment lets constituents know who is pro-woman, pro-science, and will fight for policies that prevent sex discrimination and preserve women’s rights, safety, and opportunities. It is part of IWV’s Hope Agenda to offer solutions on some of the most important issues that women, as well as Independents, Hispanics, and younger Americans, care deeply about and want addressed.
