HARTFORD, CT — Today, Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) celebrates Mike France, U.S. congressional candidate for Connecticut’s 2nd District, for his Stand With Women Commitment to support women’s access to single-sex spaces and opportunities when fairness, equality and safety are at stake.

By signing IWV’s Stand With Women Commitment, Mike France promises “to support legislation that preserves female opportunities and private spaces.”

With his signing today, France has earned an ‘approved’ score on The Riley Gaines Stand with Women Scorecard, a first-of-its-kind resource that scores every candidate for federal office on whether they intend to support legislation that stands up against the increasing threats to women’s rights, safety, and opportunities.

The Biden-Harris administration’s new administrative rule, which took effect August 1, unilaterally redefines Title IX’s sex-based protections to apply to “gender identity.” The rules pressure schools to let males who identify as women take women’s scholarships and roster spots. France’s commitment to acknowledge sex-based differences between males and females preserves equal opportunity for women and girls in all aspects of education, including in sports.

“I first got involved in giving back to my community by volunteering with my daughters’ swim team. I have seen first-hand the incredibly hard work young girls perform to achieve their athletic dreams and I absolutely cannot stomach the idea of those dreams being crushed by biological males,” said Mike France. “Beyond competitive athletics, though, is the safety and privacy rights of women and girls, not only on the playing field, but also in locker rooms and public accommodations like restrooms. I am proud to sign the Stand with Women Commitment and pledge to support common sense legislation that preserves opportunities and private spaces for women.”

“With his Stand With Women Commitment signing, Mike France is sending a clear message that he will prioritize women’s rights in Connecticut, from preserving women’s sports to protecting single-sex spaces like locker rooms, dormitories, and domestic violence shelters. We need more candidates like France who are unapologetic in their willingness to stand up for women and girls,” said Riley Gaines, IWV Ambassador and host of Outkick’s ‘Gaines For Girls’.

The Stand with Women Commitment lets Americans know who is pro-woman, pro-science, and will fight for policies that prevent sex discrimination. It is part of IWV’s Hope Agenda to offer solutions on some of the most important issues that women, as well as Independents, Hispanics, and younger Americans, care deeply about and want addressed.
