CARSON CITY, NV — Today, Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) celebrates Drew Johnson, U.S. congressional candidate for Nevada’s 3rd District, for his Stand With Women Commitment to support women’s access to single-sex spaces and opportunities when fairness, equality and safety are at stake.

By signing IWV’s Stand With Women Commitment, Drew Johnson promises “to support legislation that preserves female opportunities and private spaces.”

The Biden-Harris administration’s new administrative rule, which took effect August 1, unilaterally redefines Title IX’s sex-based protections to apply to “gender identity.” The rules pressure schools to let males who identify as women take women’s scholarships and roster spots. Johnson’s commitment to acknowledge sex-based differences between males and females preserves equal opportunity for women and girls in all aspects of education, including in sports.

“As a member of Congress, I will stand with the women who have fought for decades to achieve fairness in sports, education, and business. I will ensure females are protected on the playing field and in the locker room, work to guarantee that female-only spaces remain truly safe places for women and girls, and defend opportunities intended for women, such as grants, loans, and scholarships,” said Drew Johnson. “Throughout my campaign for Congress, I’ve been blessed to get to know pioneering leaders in the fight to defend women’s sports, including heroes like Linnea Saltz and Riley Gaines. Their courage inspires me and their tenacity amazes me.”

“Drew Johnson’s Stand with Women Commitment is a crucial step in ensuring that women have strong advocates in Congress. As we face increasing threats to women’s sports, Drew’s leadership is vital for protecting our interests and securing a future where women’s voices are heard and respected. Unlike other representatives who have undermined these vital issues, Drew’s commitment promises a stronger defense for women in Nevada and beyond,” said Linnea Saltz, a resident of Nevada and former NCAA track and field athlete who competed against June Eastwood, the first transgender-identifying male athlete to compete in DI cross country.

“Signing the Stand with Women Commitment should be the easiest thing in the world for any candidate to do, and yet many are afraid to say women are women. But not Drew Johnson. He has been a proud champion for female-only sports and women’s access to single-sex spaces for all Nevada women, including my friend and fellow athlete Linnea Saltz who lost an opportunity to a male competing in her track competition. When the NCAA, Congress and the President of the United States repeatedly fail female athletes it’s excellent to see candidates take a different approach,”  said Riley Gaines, IWV Ambassador and host of Outkick’s ‘Gaines For Girls’.

The Stand with Women Commitment lets Americans know who is pro-woman, pro-science, and will fight for policies that prevent sex discrimination and preserve women’s rights, safety, and opportunities. It is part of IWV’s Hope Agenda to offer solutions on some of the most important issues that women, as well as Independents, Hispanics, and younger Americans, care deeply about and want addressed.
