If you’ve heard about New York’s ballot initiative, Proposal 1, by now, you already know that enshrining “gender identity” and “gender expression” in the state constitution would erase opportunities and privacy for women.
But it’s more dangerous than even that.
Prop 1 also enshrines protections for minors in the state constitution, without any carve out for parental oversight. This is part of an extreme and dangerous trend to dissolve parental involvement in our own children’s most intimate life details. For example, California just enacted a law prohibiting schools from having parental involvement policies regarding a child’s gender identity. Multiple states take children into protective services for a parent’s failure to go along with their child’s confusion.
Already, a New York father has been fighting to protect his 12-year-old daughter, who was fast-tracked for puberty blockers, and Prop 1 would only make his efforts harder.
Because Prop 1 forbids differential treatment on the basis of “age” and “gender identity,” activists will swiftly use it to argue that a parent who prohibits her child from accessing sex-trait modification surgeries or life-altering drugs has violated her child’s constitutional rights.
As a mom of two girls, I’m going to do my best, but the scary reality is, I don’t know what they’re going to see on the internet. I can’t know whether they’ll get sucked into the gender ideology cult. I surely hope not. But I’m going to be there every step of the way to preserve their future.
But Prop 1 could end that choice for New York parents.
New York’s Constitution, which overrides all laws in the state, is no place to experiment with gender ideology.
Say NO to Prop 1, and tell your friends to say NO.
