ALBUQUERQUE, NM Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) engaged this October with federal and state candidates for office across New Mexico for Stand With Women events in Las Cruces and Albuquerque to champion leaders who are pro-woman and fighting for policies that preserve women’s safety, equal opportunity, and rights.

On October 5, IWV gathered supporters for a Stand With Women New Mexico rally in Las Cruces to celebrate leaders who, as federal and state candidates for office, have signed IWV’s Stand With Women Commitment, promising to “support legislation that preserves female opportunities and private spaces.”

Paula Scanlan, IWV’s state affairs liaison and a former swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania, shared her experience as a former teammate of Lia Thomas to expose the consequences of leaders who fail to stand with women and protect women’s spaces.

New Mexico U.S. Senate Candidate Nella Domenici and U.S. Congressional Candidate Yvette Herrell (New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District), as well as New Mexico State Representative Candidates Andrea Reeb (House District 64), Jenifer Jones (House District 32), and Rebecca Dow (House District 38) spoke at the rally to discuss the need for leaders to preserve women’s spaces in New Mexico.

IWV was again joined by U.S. Senate Candidate Nella Domenici for a Stand With Women event in Albuquerque on October 8, alongside New Mexico State Senate Candidates Ant Thornton (Senate District 19) and Kurstin Johnson (Senate District 18), New Mexico State House Candidate Nicole Chavez (House District 31), and Albuquerque School Board Member Courtney Jackson.

IWV celebrates New Mexico leaders who are joining the nationwide fight to prevent men from entering women-only spaces, taking opportunities meant for women, winning women’s sports competitions, and compromising women’s safety and privacy.

By signing IWV’s Stand With Women Commitment, candidates earn an “approved” score on IWV’s Riley Gaines Stand With Women Scorecard – demonstrating to New Mexicans their dedication to fighting for women and girls. IWV is proud that this is a bipartisan effort as both Republican and Democrat candidates have signed on to Stand with Women.

About IWV’s Riley Gaines Stand With Women Scorecard, Nella Domenici, Stand with Women Commitment signer, said: “I am proud to stand with Riley Gaines and strong women who support women’s opportunities. I am proud of my own career, which I spent trusting, respecting, and empowering women. Resources like the Independent Women’s Voice’s ‘Stand with Women scorecard’ are a clear way to show who actually stands with women.”

Yvette Herrell, also a Stand with Women Commitment signer, said: “I am traveling all over New Mexico, listening to what New Mexicans want. They tell me they want hope. Our future has to put people over politics. I am proud to stand with the hardworking men and women of our state, stop the woke ideology that is dividing us and put America back on track. The Stand with Women Scorecard will help New Mexicans find out who will fight for pro-woman, pro-science, and pro-parents’ rights policies.”
