WASHINGTON, D.C. — Independent Women’s Voice (IWV) is proud to announce the pivotal impact made by the Riley Gaines Stand With Women Scorecard in key states across the country this election cycle—delivering a 90% win rate for candidates who were Riley Gaines “approved,” and proving overwhelming voter support for candidates who stand with women and will fight against the increasing threats to women’s rights, opportunities, and spaces. The win rate includes welcoming 192 scorecard “approved” Stand with Women champions in the 119th Congress. “Approved candidates” yielded three upsets in the U.S. Senate, unseating incumbents who failed to Stand with Women.
In partnering with Riley Gaines, an ambassador for Independent Women’s Voice since 2022, the Scorecard generated a surge in nationwide interest and gave Americans a first-of-its-kind resource to clearly see which candidates stand with women and which do not. The Scorecard assigned scores to candidates for federal office, including the presidential candidates, based on their past decisions and actions and on whether they intend to support legislation that preserves female opportunities and private spaces.
Within days of its launch, the Scorecard moved dozens of candidates to take action and make their stances clear, including by signing IWV’s Stand With Women Commitment, which promises support for legislation such as IWV’s Women’s Bill of Rights legislative options, which would fortify the definitions of sex-based terms like ‘woman’ and ‘man’ used in state law.
The Riley Gaines Stand With Women Scorecard will continue to hold policymakers accountable for protecting women’s rights by scoring the incoming Congress based on their votes.
“90% of federal candidates endorsed by the Riley Gaines Stand with Women Scorecard won their races,” said Riley Gaines, Independent Women’s Voice ambassador. “At a time in America when we have to ask candidates if they can define the word ‘woman,’ we couldn’t sit idly by. That’s why I partnered with Independent Women’s Voice so every American had clarity on whether or not their candidates Stand with Women through our Stand With Women Scorecard. It feels like our hard work paid off: it’s undeniably clear that Americans want leaders who will stand with women and won’t back down to activists seeking to redefine our sex-based rights. I’m excited for our scorecard to continue holding leaders accountable and empowering Americans by scoring the incoming congressional class based on their votes in Congress. It’s time to get to work!”
