WASHINGTON, D.C. — Independent Women today applauded Representative Mary Miller’s (R-IL) introduction of the Keep Our Girls Safe Act, which would direct the Department of Education to ensure that women and girls in federally funded educational settings have access to single-sex spaces.
Independent Women issued a letter in support of Rep. Miller’s leadership, urging swift passage of this legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives. The letter states, in part, that:
“It is imperative that the federal government hold accountable all institutions that receive federal funding, and ensure that they are complying with Title IX and with President Trump’s executive order. Representative Miller’s bill does just that.”
This bill will support President Trump’s recent Executive Orders relating to sex-based definitions and women’s sports, which declared his administration will “take all appropriate action to affirmatively protect all-female athletic opportunities and all-female locker rooms and thereby provide the equal opportunity guaranteed by Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972.”
Additionally, the Keep Our Girls Safe Act will support a recent federal district court ruling that struck down nationwide the Biden administration’s attempt to redefine “sex” in Title IX to include “gender identity.”
Carrie Lukas, president of Independent Women, said: “Independent Women applauds the introduction of the Keep Our Girls Safe Act by Representative Mary Miller. Far too many women and girls around the country have been forced to cede their intimate spaces to men in the name of ‘inclusion.’ Women and girls deserve to be able to play sports and access single-sex intimate spaces without fearing that their rights will be trampled upon or that their privacy will be violated. It is imperative that the federal government hold accountable all institutions that receive federal funding, and ensure that they are complying with Title IX and with President Trump’s executive orders. Representative Miller’s bill does just that. Our leaders in Washington must recognize the emotional and psychological impact on women of allowing men into women’s spaces, put a stop to it, and stand with women.”
