WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Independent Women, a leading national women’s organization dedicated to advancing policies that enhance opportunity and well-being, calls on Congress to relieve American families and small businesses by passing the tax bill released by the Ways & Means Committee.
Patrice Onwuka, director of the Center for Economic Opportunity at Independent Women, said:
“Greater tax relief for families and small businesses is on the way if Congress passes the tax bill released by the Ways & Means Committee. Key provisions, such as the lowered income tax rates, are critical as families still struggle with four years of high inflation and cannot afford a 22% tax hike next year. We are also excited about some of the enhanced pro-family and pro-small business provisions in this bill. A supersized Child Tax Credit will ease the financial burdens on families raising children and those hoping to welcome new babies into the world. A more generous tax deduction on business income will give small businesses the certainty to plan for the future and reinvest in their businesses to grow. Thankfully, any ill-advised proposals to raise taxes on job creators are not included.
“Nearly 80% of women and Americans overall want the 2017 tax cuts to be permanent, and this bill is a down payment to enact the will of the people. We urge all members to pass this bill during markup tomorrow.”
