Karen Anderson is a third-generation Southern Californian with a 25-year career as a freelance writer, managing editor and photographer. She is the founder and administrator of Freelancers Against AB5, an ad hoc, all-volunteer group with 18,500 members comprised of independent contractors, small-business owners, nonprofits and others representing more than 600 categories of professions and sectors.
As an advocate for independent contractors and small business owners, she has documented thousands of stories within her group of members who are adversely affected by AB5. In March 2022, she spoke as an invited panelist at the California Advisory Committee for the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights’ hearings about the impact of AB 5 on marginalized communities.
She has written more than a dozen op-eds about AB 5 and the PROact published in the Orange County Register, The Sacramento Business Journal, the Washington Examiner, The Coast News Group, and more. In addition to appearances on panels, podcasts and radio shows, she has been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal, Forbes,San Francisco Chronicle, Sacramento Bee, San Fernando Valley Business Journal,Investor’s Business Daily, Fox Business News, The Daily Caller, The Daily Wire, Newsmax TV, Mercury News, CBS8-TV, and more.
