Our State Impact

Bureaucrats and elitists on the federal and state level are redefining language to fit a false narrative, all designed to erase that women exist as biologically distinct from men. As a result, women and girls across the country have been forced to sacrifice their opportunities, privacy, and safety.

We are fighting back. Independent Women has supported the passage of Stand with Women legislation in more than half the nation! We have defined “woman,” protected the legal right to single-sex spaces, protected the integrity of data describing sex differences, and supported women’s sports protections,
impacting the lives of over 78 million women and girls.

These legislative options to Stand with Women were developed by Independent Women to preserve the legal existence of women, as distinct from men. The legislative package includes:

  • Definitions of sex-based words like ‘woman,’ ‘man,’ ‘male,’ ‘female,’ and ‘sex;’
  • Legal protection to defend women’s single-sex spaces and opportunities (sports, prisons, locker rooms, women’s domestic violence shelters, etc.);
  • Protection of female sports;
  • Protection of the integrity of government-collected vital data statistics.

Our Stand with Women Act combines each of these model legislative options into a comprehensive package that not only defines ‘male’ and ‘female’ terms, but also protects female spaces and opportunities.

“I am taking decisive executive action to ensure the true definition of the word woman, meaning a biological woman, is what guides the state as we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity, and sanctity of women across Oklahoma. As long as I’m governor, we will continue to protect women and ensure women-only spaces are reserved solely for biological women.”

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt

“Enough is enough. Louisiana will not stand idly by and allow biological men to take advantage of opportunities for women. We want women across the country to know that your privacy, safety, and opportunities are valued and will always be protected in Louisiana. I appreciate Independent Women’s Voice and Rep. Wilder’s hard work on this bill.”

Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry

“Generations of women and men have worked hard to promote women’s sports in society, and Idaho is committed to upholding their hard work by protecting women’s sports in today’s age. I appreciate Riley Gaines and Independent Women’s Voice for supporting this important fight for women and girls.”

Idaho Governor Brad Little

“It’s common sense to acknowledge the obvious biological differences between men and women. In fact, it’s necessary to secure genuine equal protection for women and girls. What this bill does accomplish is to strengthen protections for women and girls, and I believe that it is the right thing to do.”

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds

“Indiana will not go along with the always changing idea of ‘gender identity’ that puts women and girls in danger and destroys their opportunities. Instead, Indiana is focused on protecting women and providing all Hoosiers with Freedom and Opportunity.”

Indiana Governor Mike Braun

“West Virginia will not bow down to radical gender ideology – we are going to lead with common sense, and the Riley Gaines Act does exactly that. Thank you to Riley, the Independent Women’s Voice and girls around the country standing up for what is right.”

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey

“South Dakota is a place where commonsense values remain common, and this bill reinforces that fact. This bill promotes strong family values, safety in education, and freedom from the ‘woke’ agenda like what has happened in too many other places.”

South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden

“Standing alongside our partners in Montana and across the country, I am proud to safeguard privacy and security for women and girls… Today, we’re maintaining equal opportunity for all Americans, protecting women and girls and their right to safe and separate facilities and activities.”

Montana Governor Greg Gianforte

“As a woman and mom of a girl athlete, I am proud to sign Senate Bill 486 into law to safeguard women and girls in locker rooms, bathrooms, and everywhere else. It is heartbreaking that we have people in this country who are unwilling to protect young women, but Arkansas will always stand up for girls’ safety and common sense.”

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders

“Girls should not have to share a playing field, a restroom, or a locker room with boys, and the commonsense legislation I signed today is about what is fair and safe for our children. I want to thank the members of the General Assembly for putting the well-being of our students over politics.”

Georgia Governor Brian Kemp

“Alabamians know what a woman is, and we have fought hard to ensure our laws do too. As a mother, I am grateful to know that my children and the generations to come won’t have to worry about losing opportunities to men. It has been a great pleasure to work with Independent Women Forum & Voice to ensure this bill gets over the finish line.”

Alabama State Representative Susan DuBose

Women’s Bill of Rights Declaration

  • Women deserve not to be erased.
  • Women deserve single-sex spaces and opportunities.
  • Women and girls deserve fair and safe single-sex sports.
  • Women deserve privacy.
  • Conflating “sex” and “gender” harms the rights of women.
  • To preserve female rights, leaders must Stand with Women and define sex-based terms, like “male” and “female.”
