South Carolina

I taught at a parochial school in the South Bronx for several years. I saw the profound difference the school made in the lives of our students who often came from poor, dysfunctional homes. The school provided a moral foundation, academic challenge, stability, predictability (a welcome change from the chaos of their daily lives), and protection from the streets. Many of the students could not afford the tuition, so we had several programs which provided “scholarships” to those who needed financial assistance. I support school choice because I think every child should have the opportunity to choose a school like the one in which I worked if they would like to.
